Quote of the Day
|
Thursday 03 February 2005
That's when the first of three things happened to him that changed his
life. He and his wife went on a short trip to Mexico where they decided
to do what one is supposed to do there-watch a bullfight. "When the
first animal was killed, I broke down-emotionally and physically. I had
never witnessed such unabashed animal torture before and simply couldn't
believe what I saw-the suffering of the desperate animal and the blood
lust of the cheering crowd! They couldn't wait to see the next animal
brought in and tortured. I left, and the memory of what I saw haunted
me for several years." -- Charles Patterson, Eternal Treblinka: Our
Treatment of Animals and the Holocaust, from Chapter 8

Incipient Health Crisis In The Veg*n Community

Every year for the past several several decades the North American Vegetarian Society ( NAVS ) has hosted Summerfest........a 5 day live in gathering of hundreds of veg*ns.
I went this past summer.
There were plenty of talks given by health professionals and vegans. Some of the big names were Dr. Michael Greger MD, Dr. Michael Klapper MD, Brenad Davis RD, and George Eisman RD.
The consensus among these experts is that a good vegan diet is one of the best things for your health AND that a bad vegan diet is one of the worst things for your health.
One of the messages the speakers strove hardest to expose everyone to through the plenary talks was that of an incipient health crisis in the vegetarian and vegan community.
In a nutshell, vegetarians ( and vegans ) need to regularly use a reliable source of vitamin B-12, increase their calcium intake, increase their intake of fresh green vegetables, increase their intake of fresh yellow/orange vegetables, secure a source of iodine, secure a source of essential fatty acids, reduce their consumption of sweets, minimize their use of refined flour products (pasta, breads, bagels, etc.), and get more exercise.
This is not a new message, but the experts at Summerfest emphasized -- with a palpable sense of caring and urgency -- that many vegetarians and vegans are simply not following this advice, to their great detriment.
This information inspired me to put a web site with links to information from these experts........in a format emphasiszing brevity.......for veg*ns who want to improve their health:

Hi there, Dave Louthan here.
See I told ya we'd get it figured out. J. Patrick Boyle CEO of AMI is slapping Ann Veneman around like a rag doll. Get the Canadian border open and do it now. He says he wants to do it to spur all foreign countries into buying our meat but the fact is he's got a lot of beef standing up there eating hay and getting to fat to sell.
I told everybody the meat people only had until calving season to get this fixed. That time is now upon us. All that inventory they have been holding back to keep the prices up must move now to make room for all the new feeders popping out now, today.

VEGAN BAND NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

VEGAN BAND NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!
TFBUNDY, a vegan band based in Virginia has been offered a rare opportunity and needs your help!!! The band has been invited to play a concert in the area, where 4 major record labels (Sony, Atlantic, etc) will be looking for new talent to sign and put on tour with System of A Down.
This is big news for any band, but especially big news for a vegan band. They're are very few vegan bands signed to big labels, helping to get the vegan message out. If TFBUNDY was picked and signed to a major label, the vegan message would certainly be spread with them on tour, and heard in their music.
So TFBUNDY is asking for donations, no matter how small, to help them promote their show, record a new CD, and get some merchandise produced before the big show. They don't have much time, as the show is on Jan 31st 2004.
The band has offered to give merchandise for donations as thanks to those who donate. A $2 donation gets you a sticker. A $10 donation gets you a CD. A $20 donation gets you a T-Shirt.
To Donate, click on the "Donate" button. This will take you to a secure PayPal server where you can donate the money. Make sure you include your address so the band can send you the stuff.
Also, any help in spreading the word about the band is a great help as well. Download and listen to the music, tell your friends, and help out in any way you can. If we all work together, we can make this vegan dream, a vegan reality!
Take care!!!!
